Liminal Thresholds: Embracing Endings, Celebrating Beginnings
Part 1: Embracing the stillness in liminal spaces
We find ourselves amidst the enchanting realm of the 'Liminal Space'—a celestial interlude nestled between the reverent celebration of Yule and the spirited arrival of New Year's Eve.
In the wake of Yule’s quiet introspection and the forthcoming jubilance of New Year's Eve, we find ourselves betwixt and between—a space pregnant with possibilities. Here, amidst the hushed whispers of the departing year and the tantalizing whispers of the one about to unfurl, we are invited to reflect, renew, and rekindle the flames of our intentions.
Together, let's embrace the liminality of this space and craft our narratives of transition, setting the stage for a luminous passage into the promising dawn of a new year.

It’s Boxing Day.
A full moon in Cancer.
A moody Tuesday.
I got 100 emails this morning, many were Boxing Day sales (like we need to spend more money!) and many more were about end-of-the-year intention setting. Although it can become overwhelming to the point of annoyance and/or avoidance, it is also a nourishing practice (the intention setting, that is).
This liminal space between Yule (Winter Solstice) and New Year’s Eve as we perhaps celebrate with loved ones, slow down, take moments of rest, and reflect on what came before and ponder on what we wish to focus on for the coming year.
As I get older, I realize more and more the importance of being clear and getting clear about who I am, what I stand for, and what I am working towards.
What are you most grateful for this year?
What are your biggest lessons?
What do you need to carry into 2024, and what should be left where it is in 2023?
Sankalpa or Intention Setting
“A sankalpa practice starts from the radical premise that you already are who you need to be to fulfill your life’s dharma. All you need to do is focus your mind, connect to your most heartfelt desires, and channel the divine energy within.” (Yoga International)
By definition, a sankalpa should honour the deeper meaning of our life. A sankalpa speaks to our overriding purpose. It can be our North Star. There are two types:
A heartfelt desire - a statement of who you are. I am…
A specific goal or action - a movement towards your overarching intention/purpose.
How do you figure that out? In stillness, we listen not to the mind but to the heart that then can direct the mind.
“A sankalpa is a statement of deeply held fact and a vow that is true in the present moment.” Richard Miller
North Star for 2024
Download our free guide to connecting to your North Star for 2024. A practice done annually to honour what has been and to focus my energy and heartfelt desire in a direction. That direction is summed up in a word or phrase that is a guiding light during the year.
As you ponder your word, sit in gratitude for the lessons and gifts that 2023 brought you, and dream into the coming year, may you find peace. May you be guided forward by your heart. May the moments spent within this liminal space be the catalyst for transformation, igniting within us the courage to embrace change, the resilience to navigate uncertainties, and the grace to welcome new beginnings.
Many blessings,
Glenda
